A structured breakdown of the four core sessions and the work participants will complete across the module.
Session 1: The Meaning and Role of Curriculum Design
Theme: Understanding what it means to design learning for the 21st century This session introduces participants to the core mindset and responsibilities of a curriculum designer. The focus is on understanding what curriculum means in today’s world and how its purpose is shifting in the context of AI-driven learning and NEP 2020. Participants explore the difference between "teaching" and "designing learning", and reflect on the intentionality behind building learning experiences rather than just delivering content.
Objectives:
- Understand the role and mindset of a curriculum designer.
- Explore the purpose of curriculum in the age of AI and NEP 2020.
- Reflect on the difference between teaching and designing learning.
Key Outcome: Participants leave the session with a
personal and shared definition of "curriculum design" and create a
Curriculum Designer’s Mindset Map that anchors their approach for the rest of the module.
Session 2: Anatomy of a High-Quality 21st Century Curriculum
Theme: Deep dive into the 5D framework + NEP/NCF vision This session dissects what makes a curriculum truly "high-quality" in today's education landscape. Participants examine the 5D Framework - Knowledge, Skills, Character, Meta-learning, and Environment - and explore how these dimensions align with NEP 2020 and NCF 2023. Through carefully selected global and Indian exemplars, participants analyze how strong curriculum design shows up in real contexts.
Objectives:
- Understand the 5D Framework: Knowledge, Skills, Character, Meta-learning, Environment.
- Unpack what “high-quality curriculum” means under NEP 2020 and NCF 2023.
- Analyze exemplars from global and Indian contexts.
Key Outcome: Participants build a set of
annotated exemplars and develop a
draft design checklist/framework based on the 5D model.
Session 3: From Framework to Design
Theme: Translating framework into a tangible project/unit design This session shifts from theory to creation. Participants apply the 5D Framework to design a concrete project or unit, using a scaffolded planning process. They refine outcomes, craft learning experiences, and outline assessments, all while learning how to convert abstract design ideas into real, structured design decisions.
Objectives:
- Apply the 5D Framework to design a tangible project/unit.
- Use a scaffolded process to plan outcomes, experiences, and assessment.
- Practice translating abstract ideas into design decisions.
Key Outcome: Participants generate a draft
5D-aligned project/unit plan, built using a scaffolded template.
Session 4: Refinement and Reflection
Theme: Peer feedback, improvement, reflection, and forward planning The final session helps participants refine and elevate their design work. They share their draft project/unit, receive structured peer and facilitator feedback, and polish their design for final submission. The session also guides them to reflect on their growth during the module and plan how they will continue strengthening their curriculum design practice.
Objectives:
- Refine and finalize project/unit using peer and facilitator feedback.
- Connect curriculum design to continuous improvement.
- Reflect on personal growth and next steps as a curriculum designer.
Key Outcome: A
finalized project or unit design, accompanied by a
reflection on the overall design process and personal growth.
