We educators know that academic achievement is only one aspect of school life. What is vital are the relationships, and more important the sense of social and emotional well-being we are able to cultivate together. The culture of a school fosters shared responsibility among leaders, teachers, parents and support staff to create a cohesive environment.
Today we have all been spun into an unfamiliar way of interacting with our community – be it students, parents, colleagues or leaders. We have no doubt put our best foot forward, knowing that well-being is relevant when it is intrinsically built into the DNA of a school. However, some of us may feel constrained by the limitations of an online platform.
Questions addressed in the Masterclass: How do we bring practices for social emotional learning into the digital space? What now is the role of the individual creating well-being practices for life-long learners? How may we continue to perpetuate well-being through developing and maintaining relationships with other members of the school community even in these uncertain times?
Ms. Seervai will share strategies that may be adapted across varied cultures and contexts. She believes that well-being must move out of the realm of pastoral care, and all teachers and leaders need to work together to create a harmonious and safe environment in order to achieve a mission of a better world for tomorrow.
