Some curricula are bringing in more and more material on matrices because their application and use are being seen as vital in STEM fields. Yet the thinking behind them is subtle and hard! Can you explain why we multiply matrices the strange way we do (rows of one, columns of the other)? Can you explain why we suddenly start writing points in the plane as column vectors rather than as coordinate (x,y) pairs (which are row vectors)? Can you explain why anyone should care about eigenvectors?
Let's together make perfect good sense of matrices and their standard applications over the course of three sessions together. All the mathematics will be fully explained and nothing will be left as a mystery for you and your fabulous students.
